Towards interactive global paleogeographic maps, new reconstructions at 60, 40 and 20 Ma

Paleogeographic maps are essential tools for understanding Earth system dynamics. They provide boundary conditions climate and geodynamic modelling, analysing surface processes biotic interactions. However, the temporal spatial distribution of key features such as seaways mountain belts that govern changes interchange differ between various paleogeographies require regular updates with new data models. We developed a reproducible systematic approach to paleogeographic reconstruction set worldwide Cenozoic at 60, 40 20 Ma. followed six-stage methodology integrates an extensive review geological into coherent plate tectonic model using open source software GPlates. (1) generated global kinematic model, reconstructed intensely-deformed boundaries structural, paleomagnetic other geologic in six regions: Andes, North American Cordillera, Scotia Arc, Africa, Mediterranean region Tibetan-Himalayan collision zone. (2) modified previously published paleobathymetry several regions where continental oceanic crust overlap due differences (3) then defined paleoshorelines updated fossil databases locate terrestrial marine transition. (4) applied isostatic compensation polar eustatic sea level adjustments.
